The Human-centered eXtended Intelligence Research Lab at UC San Diego focuses on the design, development, and evaluation of interactive technology across Ubiquitous Computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), eXtended Reality (XR), and immersive visualization. Our team, led by Dr. Nadir Weibel, investigates, designs, and develops new tools, techniques, and infrastructure that leverage the power of multimodal pervasive sensing and immersive visualization to first capture, quantify and understand human behavior and then support better interaction with information through the design and development of human-centered technology that extends human powers and intelligence beyond their current capacity. The HXI research lab partners with the UCSD DesignLab, the Contextual Robotics Institute, the Center for Wireless and Population Health Systems (CWPHS), and the Research Center on Optimal Digital Ethics (ReCODE). Our main application domains are health & healthcare, and education. Our projects are in collaboration with UCSD Health, the VA San Diego Healthcare System, Kaiser Permanente, and the Navy Medical Center San Diego. | ![]() |
